A study was conducted to rank breeds based on obedience and working intelligence, and French Bulldogs ranked 58th in the group just above "Lowest Degree of Working/Obdeience Intelligence." Her group supposedly obeys the first command about 30% of the time--not sure if that factors in leaves or squirrels. And according to the AKC, "their main role is that of a lap warmer." Fair enough on both counts.

Moorea asked me to post on her behalf, because while she is very smart, typing is still a bit of a challenge for her.
Moorea says, "I am so smart that I have my owners doing tricks for me. I run and stand next to the freezer and they jump up and get me icecubes to munch on. And I pretend I want to go outside and go to the bathroom, so they let me out, but guess what? I didn't have to go. I just wanted to interrupt their tv viewing. My owners are such idiots."
