Happy 1st Birthday Roxy!

Roxy turned 1 today! It's hard to believe that we've been puppy parents for 9 months. And while it's been a lot of (hard) work, we can't imagine our lives without our pup.

The birthday girl.

To celebrate her big day, we headed to the Furry 5K - a fun run / walk for Seattle-ites and their pooches to help raise money for the Help the Animals Fund. Roxy had never been around so many dogs at one time and she had so much fun getting to play with all the other dogs! Between the long walk from where we parked, to playing with the other dogs, to walking 3.1 miles, Roxy got a bit tired during the race (she laid down in the middle of the trail), but for the most part, she did great.

Once back home, we gave her a doggie doughnut (a dog cookie shaped like a doughnut with frosting and sprinkles on top) as her birthday dessert. This kept her entertained forever.
All-in-all, I think she had a great day and we look forward to seeing what the year ahead brings us. Some photos from the day are included below; others can be found on Corey's Flickr site.

We saw Rich, Jen & Grizz at the race. Grizz and Rich did the 5K run and I'm their time was a little quicker than our 20-min mile pace.

Corey and Roxy scoping out the competition.

Roxy, pre-race, in her race bandanna (all the pups were given one, while owners were given a t-shirt).

And...they're off.

Hundreds of dogs turned out for the 10th Annual Furry 5K. Here are a few that we were competing against.

Feeling good mid-race.

WATER! (Shortly after this was taken, she jumped all the way in.)

Apparently it was mean of us to ask her to 'sit' and 'stay' so we could snag a photo before she dug in.

And since she's more mature now, we've been letting her roam free while we're out and about at night and on the weekends. We've left her alone for 5+ hours so far and she's been very well-behaved. We've also given her free reign to her toy box - freedom that she loves as you can tell based on the picture below.

Roxy, please tell your owners that it was rude of them to not take more pictures of Golden Retrievers, which, a majority of their blog audience loves almost as much as you.
